(To be proposed at the Demcoratic Party Precinct Convetion for Precinct 1234 - March 7th)

WHEREAS, the U.S. Constitution gives every citizen 18 years of age and older the right to vote, and voting is fundamental to the success of a democracy; and
 
 WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of our country and our state that every eligible citizen vote; and
 
 WHEREAS, it is not possible to make it too easy to vote; and
 
 WHEREAS, every voter wants his/her vote to be counted as cast; and
 
 WHEREAS, current electronic voting systems have proven to be unreliable and open to tampering; and
 
 WHEREAS, Texans want their state to be a leader in election validity; be it therefore
 
 RESOLVED, that the Texas Democratic Party and its elected officials engage in an active campaign to make Election Day a state holiday to enable all eligible citizens to vote; and be it further
 
 RESOLVED, that the Texas Democratic Party and its elected officials engage in an active campaign to ensure that electronic voting machines be used in Texas only with open source software and with a voter-verifiable paper trail that can be hand-counted when necessary.
